Nigerian Gospel Star, Mercy Chinwo has threatened to take musician Obidiz Lawson to court for using her name in a secular song.
On February 10, 2023, Obidiz, released a song titled ‘Mercy Chinwo’, a single that’s now the subject of dispute between him and the gospel singer who is demanding that he takes it down from all streaming platforms.
Minstrel Mercy Chinwo through her lawyer, in a letter dated March 23, addressed to Obidiz Lawson, amongst other requests, ordered that Obidiz takes down the music audio and video from all music digital platforms.
Some netizans have argued that Mercy Chinwo has no case suing Obidiz because she is not the only person with that name. However, a careful look at Obidiz’s social media also shows that he is using the image/videos of the gospel Minstrel to promote the said song, hence making it quite clear that she is the one in reference.
The letter from Mercy’s lawyer further stated that failure to comply with their requests will lead to a suit of 2 billion naira in damages.
