SINGING IN LOCAL DIALECTS DOESN’T LIMIT ARTISTS -DIANA HAMILTON ARGUES.

Award Winning Ghanaian Gospel Musician, Diana Hamilton has argued that, artist singing in their local dialects does not limit their reach.
The “Esi Wo yie” hit maker made this argument on GhOne TV when she appeared on the station’s morning show, host d by Serwaa Amihere.
Responding to a question on whether she agrees with pastor Nathaniel Bassey that singing in a local dialect rather than English limits the reach of an artist, Diana Hamilton indicated that everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and so she couldn’t fault Pastor Bassey for his opinion.
She also added that, she was not in the right place to directly answer such a question because she has been doing songs in both Twi and English.
The 2021 VGMA artiste of the year went on to explain that music is a spirit and God calls people to minister to a particular group of persons, hence the language is not the main purpose but the impact of the music.
Diana Hamilton gave an example of how some South African songs ministered to her spirit for years, even though she didn’t understand the lyrics.
She therefore didn’t believe that musicians who only sing in local dialects, especially because they cannot sing in English have a limited reach.
Diana Hamilton will be hosting her annual concert dubbed Awake “Experience with Diana Hamilton” on 18th February, 2023 at the ICGC Christ Temple East Teshie.
